Local Milk is a popular food blog by photographer, educator, recipe developer and stylist Beth Kirby. Together, we completed a web redesign and brand refresh to accommodate her growing travel and lifestyle content. We collaborated with artist Satsuki Shibuya to create a website that felt sleek and minimalistic, yet reflected the abundant texture and romanticism of Beth's photography and prose.

Founder Beth Kirby approached us in 2017 to create a more refined and sophisticated iteration of her popular food blog, Local Milk. She wanted to increase brand recognition for her blog’s monogram “LM” for future projects, so we used the two letters as a starting point. Because her previous logo was hand drawn, we opted for a simple, type-driven logo for contrast and to honor the work of watercolor artist Satsuki Shibuya, whom we collaborated with.
Our main objective with Local Milk’s website was not only to create a design that was visually aligned with Beth’s updated branding system, but to also organize her vast repertoire of content. While we decided to keep the sidebar format so as not to read too much like a food magazine, we added some robust features like dedicated category pages and a searchable recipe archive organized by season, ingredient, dish type, special diets, region, and occasion + course.
